Halloween is right around the corner, but if you don't have a costume planned, don't fret! These simple, spooky nail art designs by Fleury Rose will get you into the spirit in no time
Spring Break Forever
Step 1: As always, prep your manicure with a base coat before applying two coats of the nail color of your choice. Fleury used this show-stopping green shade, Nomad by Illamasqua.
Step 2: Then, start the alien accent by slowly drawing an oval with a thin pointed brush (found in any beauty supply store) lightly dipped in black polish on your pointer finger, like Illamasqua's Boosh. Repeat on both hands.
Step 3: Fill in the outer area of each accent nail with the same black polish, being careful not to run too much over the original green oval.
Step 4: Time to add the eyes! Carefully, draw two teardrop shapes vertically up to the top of the nail, with the wide end towards the cuticle end of the nail. Pro-tip: Start by delicately drawing the outline of each eye, then fill it in with one or two big dots. Add the alien's mouth with a tiny line drawn underneath the thinner part of the teardrops.
Step 5: Further accent your mani by painting every other nail half black with your brush, and you're done! Gloss over the entire mani with your trusty top coat, and get ready to rock out, spring break-style.
Blood-Spattered
Step 1: Apply a base coat, followed by a base color of polish in two coats. Fleury chose a neutral gray shade — be sure to give your nails extra time to dry before you start the art!
Step 2: Use a regular nail polish brush and wipe off most of the polish to be sure it doesn't go on too thick. Make little blobs that come up toward the top of the nail, and add a couple of little dots towards the base of the nail to look like drips.
Fleury's tip: The less polish you have on the brush, the easier it is to control.
Step 3: Connect the "blobs" of blood together at the top of the nail with curved, short strokes. This will help to create the "dripping" effect!
Step 4: Almost done! Fleury recommends that you "cap the tips" with your polish — make sure you cover the very tips of your nails so that the art lasts longer.
Step 5: Add a top coat and you're set! Fleury suggests that you invest in a top-of-the-line top coat if you want your nail art to last.
Candy Corn
Step 1: After you apply a base coat, paint your nails with two very thin coats of white polish. Wipe as much of the polish off of the brush as possible to keep the nail art from getting too thick and gummy.
Step 2: Take a creamy, bright shade of orange and start 2/3 of the way down the nail, bringing the polish up towards the top of the nail. Do two coats so it's opaque, but make sure you give yourself some extra time to dry since the polish will be thick.
Fleury's tip: You can use both vertical and horizontal strokes to achieve the solid color.
Step 3: Make the third stripe with a yellow polish shade. Bring the polish up from the center, and concentrate on making a straight line.
Step 4: After allowing your nails to dry for a bit, add a coat of glitter polish for some extra shimmer. Fleury says that this will help conceal any minor errors you've made — for example, if your lines aren't perfectly straight. Plus, glitter makes everything better, doesn't it?
Step 5: Add a top coat! These are cute enough to eat.
