Lions club’s amazing idea of donating eyeglasses

Lions club’s amazing idea of donating eyeglasses
Throughout Missouri, Lions club is making an effort to collect and properly prepare glasses so that they can be reused in other countries such as Mexico.
The Missouri Lions Eye research Foundation now named as “Saving Sight” is storing all these used glasses and then handling them off to Community Living Inc. That helps people with disability in St. Charles County. After being washed, dried as well as sorted into bifocal category, the participants of the Community Living Day Program take them back to Lions Club which in turn uses a Lensometer which helps in determining the prescription of each pair of glasses. Each pair of glasses is now placed in separate bags with prescription labels attached to them.

Now the Capitol Lions Club at St. Charles sorts these glasses separately for adults and children and then sort them again by prescription. By means of this procedure, more than 3000 glasses have been prepared till now and now the Harvester Lion’s club has also purchased a Lensometer and joined their hands with the program. All the groups participating in this program are pretty excited because this little effort is bringing massive change in the lives of the people who cannot afford glasses. You can call St. Charles Lion Club at 636-916-4441 or email lynpat@charter.net for any further assistance.
